With the rise of COVID-19 and subsequent lockdowns, many people found themselves with extra time at home and a desire to improve their living spaces. However, a lack of skills and knowledge often prevented them from completing DIY renovation projects successfully. Recognizing this need, Negar Kamyar and Behzad Banikarimi created Renomate, a mobile application that empowers homeowners to learn and execute home makeovers with confidence.
Renomate is a unique mobile app that provides users with access to a wide range of DIY tutorials and tips shared by experienced tradies and professional DIYers. The app covers various home renovation categories, including kitchen makeovers, cleaning hacks, painting techniques, and more. Its customizable filters and advanced search options allow users to find tutorials that match their budget, skill level, and specific areas of interest within their homes.
One of the standout features of Renomate is its comprehensive tool and material recommendations. Each tutorial includes a list of tools and materials required for the project, and users can easily click on the items to find out where to purchase them from their nearest location. This feature ensures that users have access to the necessary resources to complete their DIY projects successfully.
Renomate also fosters a sense of community among its users. The app includes an in-app community where users can ask for advice, share their own projects, and connect with fellow DIY enthusiasts. This interactive platform allows users to learn from each other, gain inspiration, and receive guidance throughout their renovation journey.
The development of Renomate was not without its challenges. One significant hurdle was convincing content creators to share their projects on the app. To address this, the team introduced a revenue model that allows DIY content creators to earn a commission for each tool purchased through their tutorial's tool section. This innovative approach incentivizes content creators and ensures a steady stream of high-quality tutorials for Renomate users.
Since its launch in October 2020 in Sydney, Renomate has been empowering homeowners across Australia to take control of their home renovations. The app has received positive feedback for its user-friendly interface, extensive tutorial library, and the sense of accomplishment it brings to users who successfully complete their DIY projects.
Renomate was recently recognized for its excellence in design, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Mobile Technologies, Applications, and Software Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the app's outstanding creativity, technical prowess, and contribution to improving the quality of life for homeowners.
Renomate, with its user-friendly interface, extensive tutorial library, and interactive community, is revolutionizing the way homeowners approach DIY renovations. By providing accessible resources and fostering a sense of empowerment, Renomate is transforming houses into dream homes, one DIY project at a time.
